A mid-Autumn dump for y'all. Lots of trail runs, m A mid-Autumn dump for y'all. Lots of trail runs, motorcycle rides, Algebra/Physics with Ruby, bicycle rides, and grief.

I've also finally got the old MCI JH416 console out of storage and new recording should commence shortly. Still a lot to do to get the studio in order, but it's happening.

We lost my dear uncle Two Moon a couple of weeks ago. Feeling waves of grief throughout the days since. I recently did a deep dive into Jim Harrison and it's almost perfect timing that this poem came across my path.

The other boot doesn't drop from heaven.
I've made this path and nobody else
leading crookedly up through the pasture
where I'll never reach the top of Antelope Butte.
It is where my mind begins to learn
my heart's language on this endless
wobbly path, veering south and north
informed by my all-too-vivid dreams
which are a compass without a needle.
Today the gods speak in drunk talk
pulling at a heart too old for this walk,
a cold windy day kneeling at the mouth
of the snake den where they killed 800 rattlers.
Moving higher my thumping chest recites the names
of a dozen friends who have died in recent years,
names now incomprehensible as the mountains
across the river far behind me.
I'll always be walking up toward Antelope Butte.
Perhaps when we die our names are taken
from us by a divine magnet and are free
to flutter here and there within the bodies
of birds. I'll be a simple crow
who can reach the top of Antelope Butte.

 - J. Harrison
Early autumn photo dump for y'all! It's been a cra Early autumn photo dump for y'all! It's been a crazy couple of months around here to say the least. Adapting to staying at the lake through the week so Ruby can attend St. Andrew's - Sewanee for high school, running new trails, getting the lay of the land, riding motorcycles on days back at the farm, and finishing out some business dealings that have been in the works for five years.
Some of these photos are from the past couple of days as the leaves have started to change here on the mountain. Expect more in the coming days! In the meantime, I'll let Wordsworth explain:

Departing summer hath assumed
An aspect tenderly illumed,
The gentlest look of spring;
That calls from yonder leafy shade
Unfaded, yet prepared to fade,
A timely carolling.
No faint and hesitating trill,
Such tribute as to winter chill
The lonely redbreast pays!
Clear, loud, and lively is the din,
From social warblers gathering in
Their harvest of sweet lays.
Nor doth the example fail to cheer
Me, conscious that my leaf is sere,
And yellow on the bough:—
Fall, rosy garlands, from my head!
Ye myrtle wreaths, your fragrance shed
Around a younger brow!
Yet will I temperately rejoice;
Wide is the range, and free the choice
Of undiscordant themes;
Which, haply, kindred souls may prize
Not less than vernal ecstasies,
And passion's feverish dreams.
- from Wordsworth “September, 1819”
Late-mid summer photo drop. It's been quite a coup Late-mid summer photo drop. It's been quite a couple of months. Lots of good trail runs, motorcycle rides, hikes, and bicycle rides. Ruby started school at St. Andrew's - Sewanee for her freshman high school year. A move down to the lake house to split time between the farm was necessary. We are all trying to acclimate ourselves and plug in. As you can see, little Skippy dog didn't need much time.
Ruby and I headed out yesterday to get some fresh Ruby and I headed out yesterday to get some fresh dill so that we could make some fermented short pickles with all of the cucumbers sitting on the dining table. After procuring the goods, we then hit a bunch of Tennessee summer sun-showers. We decided to put on some Hank and take the long slow way home. Luck would have it that today turned out to be the most beautiful summer day we've had. A reprieve from the dew point downer days we've been having lately. So, I tossed on the helmet and took the R75 out for a ride. Snapped a few photos here at the farm just as I was finishing my ride and the sun was finding the horizon.
Here is a late spring/early summer photo dump. Qua Here is a late spring/early summer photo dump. Quail singing in the video. Father's day, fishing at the lake house, Land cruiser at the farm, summer fog, trail running through one of the prairies at the farm, some shrooms, rainbows, and motorcycle adventures at waterfalls. Let's run, ride, or fish soon.
What a weekend! Celebrating Amy and my mother, aur What a weekend! Celebrating Amy and my mother, aurora borealis, running trails in the woods and in the prairies at the farm, and hundreds of miles on motorcycles. I finally put the rear rack and krauser bags on the BMW. Now I have a place to put rocks that I find while out riding!

This is the inscription on the gate post as you enter the cemetery at Reese's Chapel, which is 9 miles south of Columbia, TN. Check out that gate latch that is shaped as a bat head. The ears fold down to latch the gate!

While out riding the motorcycles yesterday, we stopped at one of my favorite chapels and cemeteries in the Middle Tennessee area, Reese's Chapel. The chapel is the second one to sit at this site. It was built in the mid-late 1800's after the first chapel, which sat at the opposite end of the cemetery, was destroyed in a fire. The original chapel was a log structure and built into the shape of a Maltese cross.

The oldest dated tombstone here is 1814, but there are some unmarked stones that are believed to be older. Stones used as closure for humans that had living memories of those in the ground. Humans, y'all are weird creatures.

Alright, late winter photo dump! Finally got some Alright, late winter photo dump! Finally got some photos out on a ride of the '73 BMW R75/5 with the higher bars I put on. It's way more comfortable now as opposed to when I had lower bars on it. I think it's still stunning, too. Also some photos from some trail runs and hikes in here. A few photos from other motorcycle rides from the past few weeks. To finish off, a video of my daughter at a Machine Head concert in Atlanta that she wasn't going to miss. Her favorite song is 30 years old and you can see her here with her badass hair swinging and throwing horns. Oh, and I designed and made some stickers (LAST PHOTO). If you want one, send me a private message on here. Let's go for a run, hike, or motorcycle ride soon, ya hear?!

Winter, even though we don't usually get the North Winter, even though we don't usually get the Northern winters I was used to while growing up in Illinois, is easily one of my favorite times of year here in Tennessee. It is invigorating, a time of rejuvenation after the high dew points of Mid-south summers, and allows for trailblazing not found through the green season. Ruby, Amy, Cherokee, and I spent all afternoon taking in the magic of eight inches of snow at the farm. We all had our spirits lifted. We are also so grateful that we have a place in life such as this. I hope everyone is safe and warm.
